USDA Observes Gay & Lesbian Pride Month

The opening ceremony for the 2008 observance of Gay & Lesbian Pride Month was held in the USDA Jefferson Auditorium, Washington, DC, on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. This year’s theme was “History. Vision. Legacy.” Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Margo M. McKay provided opening remarks. The guest speaker was Dr. Gary J. Gates, Senior Research Fellow at the Williams Institute of Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy – UCLA School of Law. Dr. Gates co-authored The Gay & Lesbian Atlas and is a recognized national expert on the geography and demography of the gay and lesbian population.

The event was sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, Office of Diversity.
